Luaus on Maui: A Current Guide to Traditional and Modern Experiences

A luau is more than dinner and a show. Hawaiian and Polynesian storytelling, music, dance, and food shared the way these islands have gathered for generations. Maui offers several distinct experiences. Prices below reflect published 2026 rates and are subject to change.

Old Lāhainā Lūʻau — Lahaina

The most culturally focused luau on Maui. Hawaiian tradition specifically — the early migration, the monarchy era, and cultural traditions preserved across generations. Oceanfront in Lahaina. Reopened in 2024 after the August 2023 fires. Book weeks in advance. Does not include fire-knife performances.

Te Au Moana — Wailea Beach Marriott

Broader Polynesian story — Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, and Aotearoa — with the traditional Samoan fire-knife dance. Family-style dinner, ocean views across to Molokini. Approximately $265 adult / $165 child standard, $295 / $195 VIP.

Grand Wailea Luau (Honuaʻula)

Oceanfront lawn at the Grand Wailea. Traditional imu ceremony, polished resort-level production. Approximately $265 adult / $170 child standard, $325 / $195 VIP.

Feast at Mōkapu — Andaz Maui

Smaller and more intimate. Chef-plated dinner, not buffet. Open bar, commemorative photo, valet parking. Approximately $280 adult / $140 child standard, $340 / $180 VIP.

Drums of the Pacific — Hyatt Regency Maui, Kāʻanapali

Long-running Polynesian show produced by Tihati Productions. Buffet dinner, fire-knife dance. An approachable price point: approximately $202 adult / $101 child standard, $250 / $125 VIP.

Other Options

Myths of Maui at the Royal Lahaina Resort — more budget-friendly. Maui Nui Luau at the Sheraton Maui — oceanfront on the Puʻu Kekaʻa (Black Rock) cliffs with a nightly cliff-diving ritual.

Practical Notes

Most luaus book out weeks in advance during high season. Children’s pricing typically ages 4–12. Dress is resort casual — avoid heels, most luaus are on grass or sand. Check cancellation policies at booking. Dietary restrictions can usually be accommodated with advance notice.

Jolanta’s Feedback

Te Au Moana at the Wailea Marriott is a luau I enjoy returning to. For Hawaiian cultural authenticity specifically, Old Lāhainā Lūʻau is the one I point people toward. Attend one early in your trip rather than saving it for the last night — the music and storytelling will shape how you experience the rest of your time on the island.
