Maui Golf Guide: Every Course Worth Playing

Resort, public, and private courses across the island. All courses below are open to the public unless noted. Lessons available at every facility.

Wailea Golf Club — Three Courses

Gold Course (Robert Trent Jones Jr., 1994) — 7,078 yards, par 72. The most challenging of the three, with elevation changes and ocean views. Emerald Course (RTJ Jr., 1994) — 6,825 yards, par 72. Women- and couples-friendly design with four to six tee boxes per hole. Old Blue Course (Arthur Jack Snyder) — Wailea’s original course with views of Haleakalā, West Maui Mountains, and Māʻalaea Bay.

Wailea Golf Academy offers private lessons, group sessions, and junior camps. Tee times bookable up to 45 days in advance. waileagolf.com

Kapalua Golf — Plantation Course

Par 73, 7,596 yards from tournament tees. Host of the PGA TOUR’s The Sentry every January. Reopened November 2025 after a $25 million renovation following the Lahaina wildfires. Tee times bookable online up to 60 days in advance. Bay Course is currently closed. golfatkapalua.com

Kāʻanapali Golf — Royal and Kai

Royal Kāʻanapali (Robert Trent Jones Sr., 1962) — par 71, 6,700 yards. Maui’s first resort course. Kāʻanapali Kai (Arthur Jack Snyder, redesigned Robin Nelson 2005) — par 70, 6,388 yards. More forgiving, suitable for all levels. 36 holes of public golf managed by Troon. kaanapaligolfcourses.com

Makena Golf & Beach Club — Private

18-hole championship course at the base of Puʻu Ōlaʻi. Members-only, operated by Discovery Land Company. Not open to public play.

The Dunes at Maui Lani — Central Maui

Par 72, 6,841 yards, slope 141 — Maui’s strongest rating. The only links-style course on the island, built on naturally occurring million-year-old dunes. Minutes from the airport. Lighted driving range with grass tees. dunesatmauilani.com

Maui Nui Golf Club — Kīhei

Par 71, 6,494 yards. An approachable course in South Maui. Flat, walkable, ocean and mountain views. Good warm-up round or a solid option for visiting golfers staying in Kīhei or Wailea. mauinuigolfclub.com

Pukalani Country Club — Upcountry

Par 72, 6,494 yards at 1,100 feet elevation. Cooler temperatures, trade wind breezes, and panoramic views from Haleakalā to the ocean. Maui’s best-value green fee. pukalanigolf.com

Wailea’s three courses are right here in the neighborhood. Kapalua’s Plantation Course is worth the drive for the setting alone. If you want value and character, Pukalani and The Dunes are both underrated.
