The Day Itself

I have lived on Maui since 2000, and August 8 changes the shape of this month every year. The commemorations here are quiet. People show up, they paddle out, they sit with it.

I spent a day framing walls in Lahaina with Habitat for Humanity in October 2025. The photograph at the top of this page is from that morning.
